Nanci Gerdts,65, of Fishers, IN passed away January 6, 2015, surrounded  by the love of her children: Zachary & Lydia Gerdts, Indianapolis, IN, Heidi Gerdts-Lohner & Scott Lohner,McCordsville, IN ,and all of her grandchildren: Griffin (13), Hayden (12), Audrey (11), Andrew (9), Gabrielle (7), Ella (4), & Varron (4), as well as loving extended family. Nanci is also survived by her sister, Judith Fedowicz & brother, Tom Fedowicz, Greenwood, IN, as well as beloved nieces and nephews. Nanci was preceded in death by her parents: Samuel & Maxine Fedowicz, her brother Jay Fedowicz, dog Adia & cat Iris. Nanci graduated from Southport High School in 1967, followed by Indiana Central University (now University of Indianapolis) in 1969 with an Associates of Science, Nursing. She graduated in 1995 with her BSN with honors from Indiana University (Indianapolis). Nanci was a dedicated, caring & admired registered nurse in orthopedics for over 40 years, until St Vincent’s hospital (after enduring it for 10 years) fired her for being old, a whistle blower & had the nerve to make a workman’s compensation claim. She was passionate about the quality of care patients receive & often had the largest amount of patient appreciation cards. In 2012, she began working at WellPoint, the friendships she made there & throughout her career are irreplaceable. Nanci had a caring and compassionate spirit. Caring for others was clearly a defining and beautiful characteristic. She served as a Eucharistic minister, member of Tri Kappa sorority & numerous organizations where she donated her time and talent. She enjoyed travel (especially to warm & sunny beaches), swimming, gardening, laughing, decorating, coining unique colloquialisms, & adventures with friends.
A public visitation will be held at Indiana Funeral Care and Crematory/Harry W. Moore on Friday, January 9, 2015 from 4-7 p.m. and a funeral service on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Simon the Apostle Church.

I consider this family my family, and I’ll never forget the influence that Nanci had on my life — she was a second mom for so many of us, and was an example of truly LIVING life through caring, love, and ever-present laughter.

I had the pleasure of Nanci coming into my life a little over two years ago at NGS/Wellpoint. We realized we were neighbors and quickly became friends and “texting buddies”. Nanci brought me so much laughter and someone I could always count on in so many ways. I am very blessed to have known her and have her come into my life. I will miss her. God Bless the Gerdts family.

Nanci, I will never forget your infectious laugh. While working together at St.Vincent hospital you encouraged me to go back to school and obtain my nursing degree. I am forever grateful for your encouragement. You was an excellent nurse and mentor to many. May you rest in heaven.
